A Book is Born- By David Ritter

Waiting for a proof copy of your book is much like waiting for a child to be born. It’s been one wonderful, wild, enlightening ride.

To the boredom of family and friends, it’s all that you care to talk about, and the rest of the time it’s all you think about. You can get emotional at times and feel like crying, or you’re so excited you can’t contain your joy. You can get frustrated and want to give up while wallowing in self-pity. As you start feeling sorry for yourself, you start worrying like an expecting parent. What if something’s wrong with it, what if people won’t like it, what if it’s dumb, what if it’s ugly?

Peace eventually replaces fear and doubt and you again become content with whatever life brings. No matter what, you will love your little creation. There even can be other complications along the way but somehow through faith and love, you learn to persevere with determination and help from others. You become convinced that everything will turn out fine and your little gift will be the most beautiful in the world and you’re confident that it will help change the world for the better. You start making plans on how you will show the world your little bundle of joy. Thoughts flood your mind with places to go and people to see. Ideas for pictures to show off your little treasure occupy much of your time during the final days.
After several months, the day finally comes. Like a grandpa in a maternity waiting room, you pace back and forth throughout your home, patiently waiting for Dr. Mailperson to arrive for the delivery. At last, he pulls into your driveway and gets out. He walks up to your door but before he can knock, you’re standing there waiting. He gently hands it to you, smiles, and walks away. A thrill of excitement engulfs you as you take this little treasure back inside. You carefully open it like a swaddled papoose, and then you see it. Endless pride, joy, and love begin to fill your heart as you hold and cherish your little baby for the very first time.

I can’t help but want to do it all over again.
