Demons- A Poem by David Ritter

The thing about kindness is that we rarely realize the impact it has on someone that truly needs it. Kindness can make the darkest days so much brighter.

Recently I awoke from a bad dream. I don’t have bad dreams that much, but this dream shook me up so much that I grabbed my notebook that’s always located by my bed and immediately wrote this poem. I didn’t even bother turning on the light. I just started writing with what little light was shining through the window. I was splashing the page with my emotions when suddenly I received a text from my youngest daughter that read, “Hey dad, love you! Hope all is well.” Although it’s not all that unusual for her to text me kind words, I don’t recall her texting me so early in the day just to say I Love you. It felt like a ray of sunshine filled my heart. My attitude changed and I immediately felt loved. I then realized that it had to be God’s doing. He found a way to comfort me after a bad dream and used someone I love, my daughter, to do so. God is good!

Let’s be kind to one another for because we never know who needs it most.

DEMONS

At night I sleep upon my bed
Demons play inside my head
They try to remind me of my fears
I try to drown them in my tears

I don’t know why they torture me
I pray to God to set me free
So I can run from silent screams
To a place with brighter dreams

He puts his angels on high alert
To protect me from getting hurt
And as they stand on guard for me
I know I’ll soon have victory

So when demons come out at night
I know now I can win the fight
Because I have learned when faced alone
To pray to Him upon the throne

And when the sun begins to set
I find no need for me to fret
For darkness may close my eyes
but in the morn’ the sun will rise
