Depression- A Poem by David Ritter

I’ve struggled with depression in the past and although I’m much better these days, I still have moments of sadness. Today I have the tools to help combat it, and for me, writing is one of the best tools.

Not sure why this poem came to be but it’s how I’ve been feeling of late.

Depression

I sometimes feel I’m drowning
In a world that’s full of hate
And those who claim they love me
throw at me added weight

Sometimes the walls are caving
I feel buried in debris
If God is my safe refuge
Why not shelter me?

Sometimes I feel like quitting
When things are not that great
But I know that this too shall pass
If only I can wait

I’ll never reach perfection
Like others need to be
I’m just a work in progress
To be a better me
