Proud Dad Moment- A Story by David Ritter

Proud Dad Moment

Recently I bought a TV that has a Facebook app on it that enables me to watch videos right on the screen. The last few Sundays I have been watching the live videos from a church downstate that my daughter had recently joined. I never dreamed in a million years that I could attend church service in only my underwear but there I was praising and worshipping Jesus along with the Cornerstone worship team from the comforts of my own bed! 😊 To be honest, at first, it was more out of curiosity than anything else. Being a dad, I wanted to know what this church was feeding my little girl. Not that I didn’t trust her judgment but it’s just something I needed to do to put this dad’s mind at ease.

After a few slurps of coffee, I became alert enough to notice something. During my own personal praise session, I noticed on stage, a familiar-looking silhouette in the background singing. Tears filled my eyes when I realized that it was my daughter Rachel singing her little heart out. Rachel could have been singing on the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in front of a national television audience, and I would not have been any prouder than I was at that moment, watching and listening to her praising and worshipping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was such a beautiful moment for me that I just had to share the experience with others.

In the past, I’ve missed out on a lot of things in my children’s lives as a result of poor decisions. Usually, it was because of drugs and alcohol or some sort of selfishness that all alcoholics possess. Today, by the grace of God I am clean and sober for nearly 22 months. If it were not for my sobriety, I would not have experienced this beautiful moment in my daughter’s life.

After years of misery, I have finally found a life worth living and I never want to go back to that madness I once lived. Today I am so grateful for what God has done and continues to do in my life. If you’re reading this and struggle with alcohol or drug addiction, please know that there is a better way of life out there and God loves you more than you can ever imagine. I don’t care what you have done in the past, God can restore your name and restore broken relationships.

I do AA on zoom and If you want the link to the 11am and 7pm Thetford AA meeting that I attend, please message me. Don’t worry my camera is off when I’m only in my underwear! 😊

Oh yeah, by the way, I just adore Rachel’s church!
