TOUGH AS THEY COME- A Poem by David Ritter

TOUGH AS THEY COME” is a heartfelt poetic tribute to my lifelong friend, Kenny Rosebush. I miss him deeply and cherish the memories we shared. To the Rosebush family, please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. May Ken’s spirit live on in our hearts forever. I join the fight against cancer, hoping for a world without this devastating disease.

TOUGH AS THEY COME

As tough as they come from the neighborhood,
Ken fought to the end, as we all knew he would.
And though he grew weary, his spirit was strong,
which empowered his family to help him along.

They battled courageously with all their might,
side by side with friends who joined the fight.
And I’ll never forget how their generous ways,
helped us all get through the difficult days.

They all did their best to help ease his pain,
‘til God gave them rest when tears fell like rain.
And some might consider that cancer has won,
but love says the battle is far from done.

Cancer took his body, but I have good news,
Ken’s spirit is alive, and he did not lose.
And by spreading his kindness and memory too,
we can all face cancer and say fuck you!!!

MEMORIES FOR KEEPS

A collection of poetry that reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. With spirituality the centerpiece of most of his writings, the author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. While tackling topics ranging from grief to fatherhood, from addictions to friendships, this writer captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad who is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!

BOTTLED MEMORIES

These stand-alone poems were written over many years. While individually they describe the conflicts associated with alcoholism, when read together they reveal a more complete picture of the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction, as well as the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Although most of these poems pertain to my life, it is my hope that other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
