Tough as They Come – A Poem by David Ritter

This poem is dedicated to my lifelong friend, Kenny Rosebush. His strength, kindness, and courage continue to inspire everyone who knew him. I stand with his family and all who battle cancer, believing love always has the final say.

Tough as They Come

As tough as they come from the neighborhood,
Ken fought to the end, as we all knew he would.
And though he grew weary, his spirit stayed strong,
empowering family to help him along.

They battled courageously with all of their might,
side by side with friends who joined in the fight.
And I’ll never forget how their generous ways
helped us all make it through difficult days.

They did all they could to help ease his pain,
’til God gave them rest as tears fell like rain.
And some might consider that cancer has won,
but love says the battle is far from done.

Cancer took his body, but here’s the good news:
Ken’s spirit lives on—he did not lose.
By sharing his kindness and memory, too,
we face down this cancer and say screw you.

In memory of my lifelong friend
Kenny Rosebush
