“Our Father in Heaven” is a poignant reflection on the state of the nation, expressed through a heartfelt prayer. With raw honesty and deep concern, the poet addresses the divisions and turmoil plaguing society, seeking divine guidance and unity.
Our Father in Heaven
Our Father in heaven, is how we begin,
when we pray for your grace, and forgiveness of sin,
My country’s in turmoil, it’s in a great mess,
while those causing evil, expect You to bless.2020 was dreadful, a most difficult year,
of sickness and dying, and eternal fear.
I tremble with anger, at what my eyes see,
as conditioned zombies, roam the land of the free.Resentments are born, from lies that are cast,
and a country divided, can surely not last.
If we disagree, then we argue and fight,
and forget that might, doesn’t always make right.Fellow countrymen gather, in a turbulent crowd,
and show to the world, we’re obnoxious and loud.
Deep hatred is rooted, and the other’s to blame,
above all the sorrow, I feel a deep shame.Between the two sides, that don’t get along,
how can I choose, so that I might belong?
I’ll pray for God’s guidance, His mercy and grace,
and pray that my country, His love will embrace.David Ritter 1/10/21

MEMORIES FOR KEEPS
A collection of poetry that reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. With spirituality the centerpiece of most of his writings, the author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. While tackling topics ranging from grief to fatherhood, from addictions to friendships, this writer captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad who is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!
BOTTLED MEMORIES
These stand-alone poems were written over many years. While individually they describe the conflicts associated with alcoholism, when read together they reveal a more complete picture of the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction, as well as the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Although most of these poems pertain to my life, it is my hope that other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
Wonderful poem.
Well said Amen
Thanks! 😊
