A New Way of Life – A Poem by David Ritter

A New Way of Life is a heartfelt recovery poem by David Ritter. It reflects the healing power of faith and surrender, capturing the peace that comes when we let go, look inward, and trust in God’s grace. Written from the heart, it speaks to anyone walking the road of recovery or renewal.

A New Way of Life

I learned to admit I can’t do this alone,
So I prayed to the One who sits on the throne.
In kindness, He listened, drying my tears,
And walked with me gently, easing my fears.

He guided my steps with mercy and grace,
Leading me forward to a safe, healing place,
Where friends gave me courage to face my wrongs,
And helped lift the weight I’d carried so long.

They shared their experience, strength, and hope,
Gave me the tools I needed to cope.
I learned to be honest and look deep inside,
Uncovering flaws I once tried to hide.

I listed the ones who were touched by my pain,
And made my amends so love can remain.
Step by step, I am mending the past,
One day at a time, I have peace at last.

My heart is now steady, my purpose made clear,
I walk in His presence, no longer in fear.
Freed from past darkness, from struggle and strife,
Forever grateful for my new way of life.
