“A New Way of Life”
Poem is about my journey through recovery and finding peace. Admitting that I couldn’t do it alone took a lot. With faith, friends, and honesty, I started to rebuild my life. Each step—no matter how small—has been a step toward healing. This poem is a reminder. With the right support and a bit of courage, it’s possible to find hope. You can find purpose and gratitude again. I hope it speaks to anyone who’s facing their own struggles or looking for a fresh start.
A New Way of Life
I learned to admit I can’t do this alone,
So I prayed to the One who sits on the throne.
In kindness, He listened, drying my tears,
And walked with me gently, easing my fears. He guided my steps with mercy and grace,
Leading me forward to a safe, healing place,
Where friends gave me courage to face my wrongs,
And helped lift the weight I’d carried so long. They shared their experience, strength, and hope,
With tools to support me, to help me cope.
I learned to be honest and look deep inside,
Uncovering flaws I once tried to hide.I listed the ones who were touched by my pain,
And made my amends so love can remain.
Each day, step by step, I’m mending the past,
One day at a time, I’m finding peace at last.Through prayer and with faith, I wait and I trust,
For guidance that’s gentle, wise, and just.
Awakened to life in this grace-filled embrace,
I share this bright path with each soul I face.Sobriety’s gift, like a bright morning light,
Bringing forth hope from the depths of night.
Forever I’m grateful, freed from past strife,
Living renewed in my new way of life.David Ritter
ABOUT THE BOOKS
MEMORIES FOR KEEPS
A collection of poetry reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. Spirituality is the centerpiece of most of his writings. The author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. This writer tackles topics ranging from grief to fatherhood. He also writes about addictions and friendships. He captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad. This dad is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!
BOTTLED MEMORIES
These stand-alone poems were written over many years. Individually, they describe the conflicts linked to alcoholism. When read together, they reveal a more complete picture of the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction. They also show the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Most of these poems pertain to my life. I hope that other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
