GONE FISHING – A Poem by David Ritter

Gone Fishing is a poignant and heartfelt poem that captures the universal experience of loss and remembrance. Through simple, evocative language, David Ritter creates a touching tribute to a loved one. The poem evokes solace and peace with the imagery of a fisherman’s paradise.

If someone should ask for me,
tell ’em heaven is where I’ll be.
I’ve finished all my life’s chores,
and now I fish on heaven’s shores.

The view is grand and the fishing’s great,
but I yearn for you as I wait.
I’ll save a spot on the river’s bend,
for all those, I call family and friend.

But for now, head out to sea
and make a cast in memory,
to all the good times that you had,
with me- your friend, your grandpa…your dad.

And if the fish no longer bite
or seem no longer worth the fight,
because it’s me that you are missin’,
don’t worry – be glad – I’ve only gone fishin’.

ABOUT THE BOOKS

MEMORIES FOR KEEPS

A collection of poetry that reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. Spirituality is the centerpiece of most of his writings. The author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. The writer explores topics like grief, fatherhood, addictions, and friendships. He captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad who is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!

BOTTLED MEMORIES

These stand-alone poems were written over many years. Individually, they describe the conflicts associated with alcoholism. When read together, they reveal a more complete picture. This includes the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction. It also highlights the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Most of these poems pertain to my life. I hope other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
