“Gone Hustling” captures the essence of camaraderie and passion within the world of pool. As the narrator reflects on their absence from the pool league, they encourage their friends and fellow players to cherish the memories they’ve shared. The poem beautifully intertwines the sounds of the game—the clack of balls, the hush of the hall—with the unseen presence of the narrator. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the love and dedication they felt for the game, even beyond their physical presence.
Gone Hustling
When pool league starts without me,
and my cue no longer plays,
Remember the good times that we shared,
let those memories light your way.In the hush of the hall, hear my laughter,
in the clack of the balls, find my touch,
In the shadow of cues, feel my presence,
for in this game, I loved so much.May all the rolls be in your favor,
your strokes flow smooth and clean.
And when doubt creeps into your mind,
know I’m cheering for you, unseen. So chalk up, take aim, and break strong,
play your best, as I would too.
For every shot and every game,
in spirit, I hustle along with you.David Ritter
