“In ‘Surrender,’ a poignant exploration unfolds—a raw and honest journey from the depths of despair to the transformative power of faith. Through candid introspection, the poet courageously shares their struggle with darkness, ultimately finding healing and hope through surrendering to a higher purpose.”
Surrender
I can remember a time in my life
when everything seemed so wrong.
The world felt turned upside-down,
and I thought I didn’t belong.For many a year, a great darkness,
lurked inside my mind.
I tried to search for a guiding light,
but I was lost and blind.I felt unworthy of God’s love
for the bad choices I made.
And I would pretend that I was okay
when deep down, I was afraid.Afraid that God was mad at me,
for letting me feel this way.
And that He mocked my every word,
at times I tried to pray.I knew of His Son, Jesus Christ,
who died on the cross for me.
But I did not see the power in Him,
would heal me spiritually.Until the day all hope was gone,
my outlook on life was grim.
I accepted the fact that I needed help,
so I surrendered my life to Him!David Ritter 9/9/2021

MEMORIES FOR KEEPS
A collection of poetry that reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. With spirituality the centerpiece of most of his writings, the author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. While tackling topics ranging from grief to fatherhood, from addictions to friendships, this writer captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad who is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!
BOTTLED MEMORIES
These stand-alone poems were written over many years. While individually they describe the conflicts associated with alcoholism, when read together they reveal a more complete picture of the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction, as well as the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Although most of these poems pertain to my life, it is my hope that other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
