“Blinded by the Light” is a poignant exploration of the complexities of human nature and the challenges of sharing one’s faith. The poem follows the speaker’s journey from darkness into God’s light, then reflects on how even good intentions can sometimes overwhelm others. It’s an honest prayer for guidance, humility, and restoration.
Blinded by the Light
I wandered in a dark cruel world
Ashamed of being alone
Nowhere was there a friendly light
Or a place to call my own
And in my fruitless wanderings
Appeased by things of greed
How barren then was my harvest
When I hadn’t sown a seed
The desire for love consumed me
And it drove me to despair
Then God shed His light upon me
And told me I must share
So now I spread about His light
With every chance I can
But sometimes with His brightness
I blind my fellow man
I do have the best intentions
They don’t always work out right
When my fervent zeal to change the world
Leaves it blinded by the light
Please guide me oh my Savior
And show me what I must do
Touch the ones that I have blinded
And guide them back to you
