“How Long?” is a heartfelt prayer written from a place of deep struggle and longing. In this poem, David Ritter voices the cry of a weary soul seeking God’s comfort, guidance, and hope.
How Long?
O Lord,
How long will You ignore me?
How long will You look away?
How long must I struggle with anguish
with sorrow in my soul each day?
Turn and answer me, my God,
restore the light to each eye,
so I may see Your unfailing grace
that rids me from this cry.
Replace each tear with a song
so that I may sing to You,
and may the words inside my heart
reflect all the love You do.
Grant me the joy of Your presence,
show me how much You care,
help my steps remain on Your path
while You guide me in my prayer.
I come to You for sound refuge,
please hear my tragic plea,
for You are my rock of hope
how long will You ignore me?
