I AM SOBER – A poem by David Ritter

I Am Sober

In this heartfelt reflection, David Ritter shares the raw truth of recovery—its daily battles, moments of grace, and the gratitude that comes with every sober sunrise. “I Am Sober” reminds us that progress, not perfection, defines healing. Through faith, honesty, and endurance, light breaks through even the hardest days.

I Am Sober

I am sober and that’s okay,
I’ll make it through another day.
For me it’s harder than you think,
Living my life without a drink.

Some days can be really rough,
And I want to say I’ve had enough.
But I can’t give up and so I’ll try,
Because if I fail I could die.

So if you could please understand,
Life for me is not always grand.
My addiction is only a part of me,
There’s much more for you to see.

I am trying the best way I can,
Far from perfect, I’m just a man.
Struggles will erupt from a broken me,
Please pray for healing and victory.

This recovery is not always bad,
A sooner start I wish I had.
But I’ll make it through another day,
I am sober and that’s okay.
