I Know Your Pain – A Poem by David Ritter

“I Know Your Pain” is a compassionate poem offering comfort to anyone grieving the loss of a parent. With honesty and empathy, it reminds us that love remains, even after loss.

I Know Your Pain

I know we’ve had our problems
and we never seem to agree
I know the disappointment’s been great
and you can’t stand the sight of me

But if I could have just a moment
There’s something that I need to share
despite the many differences
I still and will always care

I know you’re going through
one of life’s greatest fears
and to lose a precious parent
can cause many a tear

And though it’s difficult today
to see beyond the sorrow
looking back at happy memories
will help comfort your tomorrow

Some may say, “sorry for your loss”
but you never truly part
if you carry their love
within your broken heart

I’m sorry we don’t get along
or rarely see eye-to-eye
but with each tear you shed
remember I too share your cry

So I pray to God for comfort
and that He will help you through
because I too have known the heartache
since the day when I lost you
