My Precious Daughter is a tender father-to-daughter poem about love, distance, and hope. Through honest, heartfelt lines, David Ritter captures the ache of separation and the unbreakable bond that endures across time and miles.
My Precious Daughter
Here I lay all alone
thinking about how you’ve grown
You’re getting big, you’re almost two
I’ll never forget the first time I held you
There’s a big empty feeling in my heart
because we are so far apart
It was so hard to say goodbye
remembering curls and big brown eyes
Lately I’ve been feeling really sad
that you’ll forget who is your dad
But I’ll never forget my little girl
the greatest thing in this big world
If I had one wish, know what it would be?
For you to move and live with me
It’s only what any dad would say
but I know your mom would say, “No way”
If there was a way Mom and I could share
I would show you how much I care
I’m sorry I left, it wasn’t what I planned
someday I hope you’ll understand
I’ve never missed someone this much, never
You’ll be in my heart forever and ever
I’ll come back, I just don’t know when
I’ll just keep missing you ’til then
I’m starting to cry like running water
I love and miss my precious daughter
