“Sober For A Year” is an honest and uplifting reflection on the journey of recovery. Filled with gratitude, strength, and renewed faith, this poem honors the courage to change and the support that makes healing possible.
Sober For A Year
A year ago this day,
Lost in a world of strife,
I mustered up my courage,
And chose to change my life.
In a meeting of my peers,
I sat with sullen air,
Alone, afraid, and angry,
I found my solace there.
I drank up every word,
That was uttered on that day,
The love that filled the room,
Would help me find the way.
The words the others spoke,
Harsh as they might be,
The first steps towards a new life,
Would have to come from me.
Honesty would be my credo,
And forgiveness was a must,
I reconnected with my Savior,
And to Him I gave my trust.
At times I may have faltered
But the struggle wasn’t long,
Others were there to raise me,
And they helped me to stay strong.
I now share my hope and strength,
With those who are in need,
And pray my words of hope take root,
Just like a gardener’s seed.
To all who’ve shared my journey,
And took the time to cheer,
Thanks to you with all my heart,
I’ve been sober for one year!
