“Upon My Deathbed” is a poignant love letter written in anticipation of the end. With heartfelt sincerity, the speaker expresses their enduring love for their partner, seeking forgiveness and offering comfort in the face of impending death. The poem is a testament to the power of love that transcends mortality.
Upon My Deathbed
If I’m unable to write again,
for my doomed world will soon pass by,
I feel compelled to pen a few lines,
which may fall under your teary eye.Darling, my love for you is deathless,
for-it shall ever know no end.
Forgive my faults and times I’ve hurt you,
how thoughtless and foolish I have been.Yet, you were always there for me,
even if I was the one to blame.
When my last gasp of breath escapes me,
it will be whispering your sweet name.If the dead can come back to this earth,
and spark unseen around those they love.
You shall know that I will be with you,
bringing love for you to take hold of.I’ll be with you in the brightest day,
and even in the darkest of night.
Amidst your blissful scenes, sad hours,
in spirit, I’ll be clutching you tight.Don’t be grief-stricken when I am gone;
allured by your everlasting charm.
I’ll always be near, my precious love,
waiting in heaven with open arms.David Ritter

MEMORIES FOR KEEPS
A collection of poetry that reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. With spirituality the centerpiece of most of his writings, the author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. While tackling topics ranging from grief to fatherhood, from addictions to friendships, this writer captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad who is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!
BOTTLED MEMORIES
These stand-alone poems were written over many years. While individually they describe the conflicts associated with alcoholism, when read together they reveal a more complete picture of the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction, as well as the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Although most of these poems pertain to my life, it is my hope that other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
