Man praying alone while holding a Bible, symbolizing struggle, doubt, and faith

Continued Prayers – A Poem by David Ritter

“Continued Prayers” is an honest and heartfelt reflection on struggle, doubt, and the journey back to faith. Through raw vulnerability and hope, David Ritter reminds us that prayer is never wasted — even when God feels far away.

Continued Prayers

I doubted that God would listen,
I felt unworthy of His love,
At times it seemed the words I prayed
Bounced off the ceiling above.

Where are You? I would scowl,
As I shook my fist at Him,
And with each passing day
My faith in God grew dim.

I wandered through the darkness,
Unable to do what’s right,
I blamed God for all my troubles,
Yet I yearned to see His Light.

Though knowing *I* was the problem,
The solution seemed far away,
And out of sheer desperation,
I continued still to pray.

Sometimes tears replaced the words
To each constant prayer,
And sometimes I would question,
Does my God even care?

Then one day it finally happened—
God revealed Himself to me,
And showered me with His love,
His grace and mercy.

I no longer question God,
Nor His perfect will;
And no matter what this life may bring,
I will continue to pray—still.
