Gone – A Poem by David Ritter

Gone

Gone is a deeply personal poem marking another year of sobriety and gratitude. Through honest, unflinching lines, David Ritter reflects on what has been left behind — pain, regret, and self-destruction — and celebrates the peace, faith, and strength found in recovery.

Gone

Another year sober with no regrets
Gone are the shakes and nighttime sweats
Thank you God for delivering me
From a life of drama and misery

Gone are the nights I’ve spent in jail
Gone are the ones who hoped I’d fail
Gone are the demons who loved to play
Gone are the ones I prayed would stay

Another year sober and I march on
Gone are the games I tried to con
Thank you God for all your grace
A new life now I found my place

Gone are the nights I could not sleep
Gone are the promises I could not keep
Gone are the words that we are through
Gone are the lies like I love you

Another year sober let’s celebrate
Gone is the heart that’s full of hate
Thank you God for family
the ones who did not give up on me

Gone are the nights I’ve spent in jail
Gone are the ones who hoped I’d fail
Gone are the demons who loved to play
Gone are the ones I prayed would stay

Gone are the nights I could not sleep
Gone are the promises I could not keep
Gone are the words that we are through
Gone are the lies like I love you
