I’m Just A Dad – A Poem by David Ritter

“I’m Just a Dad” is an honest reflection on fatherhood — the love, the flaws, the worries, and the quiet hope of simply doing your best. This poem honors every dad who gives his all, even on the days he feels imperfect.

I’m Just a Dad

I’m just a dad with lots of love
Far from perfect like our Lord above
And life isn’t always loads of fun
I make mistakes like everyone

I’m not always playful and full of wit
I tend to worry more than I admit
I wonder does my family see
Just how much they mean to me

I try my best to make them proud
Despite the fact, I’m sometimes loud
I struggle with what life may bring
and don’t have answers to everything

For them, there’s nothing I will not try
To bring them joy or stop a cry
Provide for each their every need
In hopes they will one day succeed

Do they know I love it too
to hear them say “Dad we love you”
It cheers me up in times I’m sad
I too need love I’m just a dad
