Colorful songbird perched on a blooming branch in springtime

Springtime Cheer – A Poem by David Ritter

“Springtime Cheer” is a lighthearted celebration of spring’s return. From blooming trees to baseball fields, this poem honors the joy and renewal that arrive with warmer days and brighter skies.

Springtime Cheer

Of all the seasons in the year,
Spring’s the one that gives me cheer.

For longer days and a brighter sun
That melts the snow when winter’s done.
A good riddance to winter strife,
A pleasant welcome for new life.

For maple syrup on my plate,
Croaking frogs court a mate.
Wild flowers erupt in bloom,
Sweeping the garage with a broom.

For the birds’ safe return,
Cleaning the boat stem to stern.
Firing up the barbecue grill,
As Mother Earth sprouts daffodils.

For the child with bat and ball
Who runs the bases and does not fall.
All teams begin in first place,
With visions of a pennant race.

For the bunnies who hop along
Beneath the robins who sing their song.
High atop a cherry tree,
Where blossoms burst in majesty.

Of all the seasons in the year,
Spring’s the one that gives me cheer.
