“The Memories I Keep” is a reflective and emotional journey through cherished moments shared with a lost love. This poem captures the beauty, warmth, and bittersweet ache of remembering what once brought comfort and joy.
The Memories I Keep
It was late into the night
And I could not sleep
So I decided to write
On the memories I keep
I miss the way she used to sing
Those old country songs
The way we used to laugh
Made me feel like I belonged
I miss long talks about God
And our crazy families
Sharing hopes and dreams
As well as fantasies
I miss long rides in the car
A yard sale or two
Walking hand-in-hand
A simple “I love you”
I miss trips to the beach
Long strolls in the park
Watching late-night movies
And whispers in the dark
I miss love before breakfast
And dinners with wine
The warmth of her body
As it lay next to mine
I miss kisses goodbye
Each time we had to part
Warm greetings on return
That came from the heart
But one thing I don’t miss
And wish it would end
The sad feeling that arises
When I miss my friend
It was late into the night
And I could not sleep
So I decided to write
On the memories I keep
