The Proposal

I know we’ve had our share of problems
that never seem to go away
but a decision to change for the good
has these words for me to say

I’ve always loved you no matter what
you were always on my mind
my heart ached painfully
when words you spoke weren’t kind

I know our hearts were breaking
I know now things must change
and with a thrill of excitement
I have these plans arranged

For a long time now we’ve been unhappy
we loved each other in vain
it’s going to take time I know
to heal all our pain

From this day forward I promise
to do whatever it takes
to make you happy your life complete
and to cut down on the mistakes

Let’s look to the future, forget the past
prove to each other our love
Let’s love one another, be best friends again
prove we’re a match from heaven above

The words I’m saying are long overdue
I only have myself to blame
I hope you feel my words are sincere
I hope you feel the same

But if you don’t I’ll understand
just let my heart go free
but if you love me and truly care
then will you marry me?
