“Three Wishes” is a tender exploration of longing, hope, and the desire for a lost love’s return. Through three symbolic wishes, the poem captures the ache of missing someone deeply and the enduring power of love.
Three Wishes
I went for a walk
beneath a night’s lonely sky.
I was missing my love
when a glimpse caught my eye.
A falling star fell
from heavens, dark above.
So I closed my eyes, made a wish,
for my long-lost love.
I saw a fountain pool
while strolling through a mall.
Reached in my pocket,
the fount seemed to call.
I closed my eyes, tossed a coin,
and craved this special wish:
to once again, very soon, feel her gentle kiss.
Then it was my birthday,
and Mother baked a cake.
Before I blew out the candles,
I had this wish to make:
Wherever you are, my love,
wherever that may be,
know how much I love you
and please come back to me.
