A raw and honest exploration of faith and doubt, “What Am I to Do” is a poignant poem that delves into the depths of the human soul. Through heartfelt verses, the poet grapples with life’s challenges, seeking solace and guidance from a higher power.
I enjoy sharing older pieces to trace my writing journey. This poem, though not a favorite, holds a special place in my heart. Crafted over two decades ago during a tempestuous time, it reflects a period when my faith was severely tested. While I’ll never fully comprehend life’s trials, I’m grateful for the strength to endure them. Those initial lines haunted me for days before finding release through this poem. Writing has always been my therapy, a necessity rather than a desire at times.
What Am I to Do
My sweet Jesus, I call out to you.
Oh, sweet Jesus, what am I to do?If ever I needed you, now is the time.
Search my heart, I’m sure you will find
pain and hurt, like never before.
With each passing day I need you more.Help me to do that which is right
so others may see in me your perfect light.
Please forgive me for the mistakes I’ve made.
At the foot of the cross my sins I’ve laid.Thank you for dying on the cross for me
and giving me new life for eternity.
For this, my life will never be the same.
May I bring honor and glory, to your sweet name.My sweet Jesus, I’ve called out to you!
Oh, sweet Jesus, what am I to do?
