I’ve Had My Share – A Poem By David Ritter

“I’ve Had My Share” is a reflective look at the joys, sorrows, mistakes, and victories that shape a person’s life. With honesty and gratitude, this poem acknowledges the struggles while embracing the lessons learned through every season.

I’ve Had My Share

I’ve had my share of constant sorrow
when heartache refused to end
and I sat awake in the dark still night
with a bottle as a friend

And I’ve had my share of glory days
when life was filled with joy
and I cherished them sincerely
like a child with his toy

I’ve had my share of foolish mistakes
that brought me so much shame
and I cried to a merciful holy God
with hope to restore my name

And I’ve had my share of good intentions
when I felt my heart was right
only to face disappointment when
my effort led to a fight

I’ve had my share of shady people
who promised the best they could be
only to discover there were so few
who truly had love for me

But through it all and despite the fact
that life is not always fair
I’m glad of the lessons that I have learned
God knows I’ve had my share
