“I’ve Had My Share” is a reflective poem that explores the complexities of life’s journey. Through candid introspection, the poet shares experiences of both joy and sorrow, ultimately finding wisdom and gratitude amidst life’s challenges.
I’ve Had My Share
I’ve had my share of constant sorrow
when heartache refused to end
and I sat awake in the dark still night
with a bottle as a friendAnd I’ve had my share of glory days
when life was filled with joy
and I cherished them sincerely
like a child with his toyI’ve had my share of foolish mistakes
that brought me so much shame
and I cried to a merciful holy God
with hope to restore my nameAnd I’ve had my share of good intentions
when I felt my heart was right
only to face disappointment when
my effort led to a fightI’ve had my share of shady people
who promised the best they could be
only to discover there were so few
who truly had love for meBut through it all and despite the fact
that life is not always fair
I’m glad of the lessons that I have learned
God knows I’ve had my shareDavid Ritter

MEMORIES FOR KEEPS
A collection of poetry that reveals one man’s feelings about the world around him. With spirituality the centerpiece of most of his writings, the author touches the hearts and minds of readers with hope, peace, love, humility, wisdom, and wit. While tackling topics ranging from grief to fatherhood, from addictions to friendships, this writer captures the essence of a born-again, alcoholic dad who is grateful to have finally found serenity in life. Today, through this collection of both old and new works, he shares that serenity with you!
BOTTLED MEMORIES
These stand-alone poems were written over many years. While individually they describe the conflicts associated with alcoholism, when read together they reveal a more complete picture of the destruction, depression, and chaos of addiction, as well as the peace, hope, and joy of recovery. Although most of these poems pertain to my life, it is my hope that other people will relate to them also. It’s not only my story but the story of so many others.
