Enjoy the Ride – A Poem by David Ritter

“Enjoy the Ride” is a heartfelt New Year reflection on gratitude, sobriety, faith, and the lessons learned along life’s winding road. With honesty and warmth, this poem celebrates growth, resilience, and the joy of embracing the journey ahead.

Enjoy the Ride

I’ve learned a lot, this passing year,
streaked with smiles, and each bitter tear,
but the greatest lesson, I have learned,
my humbled life, is a blessing earned.

I gained no fortune, nor instant fame,
but I am wealthy, just the same,
I’ll choose my family, with simple pleasures,
over vast riches, or priceless treasures.

Mistakes I’ve made, my God, that’s true,
regrets I’ve had, but they were few.
I’ve lost some friends, but most remained,
but little I’ve given, the more I’ve gained.

I reconnected, with my God above,
and I do my best, to share His love.
I’m not perfect, but you will agree,
that the sober life, looks good on me.

A terrible storm, this year has borne,
and many of us, are tattered and worn.
Believe in His word, for it will remain,
the sun always shines, after the rain.

Another grueling year, now comes to an end,
I’m forever grateful, if you’re still my friend.
To my loved ones near, or far and wide,
Happy New Year to you, and enjoy the ride.
